Researching How People Get Through High Stress Events

Stress happens — but what makes the difference between something that’s no big deal and something that’s traumatic?

Let’s Talk About It.

I’m conducting interviews to understand the factors that influence whether an event is experienced as traumatic or not.

This confidential conversation will focus on:

✅ High Stress experiences that felt traumatic to you
✅ High Stress experiences others might call traumatic, but you didn’t
✅ Risk and preventive factors that shaped how you experienced those events
✅ Skills and supports that helped you (or could help others) build capacity in the face of hardship

Your stories contribute to research on trauma-informed leadership and prevention, helping empower workplaces to create environments where people can grow resilience and capacity – for themselves and for others.

I would love to include your story in this research. If you’re willing, we’ll hop on a call and I’ll ask some open ended questions – it’s going to feel like a conversation where I’m learning more about you as you’re talking about my favorite subject.
You can go into as much or as little detail as you like, and, while most interviews last around 1 hour, it can go shorter or longer according to your preference.

These interviews are part of a research project exploring how people make sense of difficult experiences. The goal isn’t to focus on the details of the events themselves, but on how you experienced them, what made them harder or easier to carry, and what shaped whether they felt traumatic.

Your perspective adds to a deeper understanding of how trauma works – not just as a clinical concept, but as a lived reality that’s influenced by context, relationships, and support systems.

  • A 45-60 minute confidential interview
  • Open-ended questions about your experiences (share as much or as little as you feel comfortable)
  • You will not be pressed for specific details of traumatic events, just a general overview
  • You can skip any question by saying “skip,” and you may stop the interview at any time without consequence

👉👉 Share only what feels comfortable. No pressure, no right or wrong answers – just a thoughtful conversation.

Anyone (18+) with life and/or workplace experiences who is willing to reflect on how they’ve experienced challenging events.

By sharing your perspective, you’ll be helping uncover how trauma actually works in people’s lives – not just in theory, but in practice. Most research looks at the event itself. This project looks at factors in the lives of the people who lived those events and how they shape whether the event is considered traumatic or not.

I want to use this information to empower leaders to equip their teams with preventive care factors that make a difference. Contributing to this research gives data-driven direction for leaders to build up the capacity of those they lead.

Your name will never be shared. While some stories might be stripped of identifying factors to be used as a example, most of the data will be shared in aggregate with the other findings of the research.

I’m looking to create tools to help individuals and businesses build their capacity to manage the stress they encounter with resilience. I also hope to write articles and a book based on my findings.
